After 24 years as executive director of the Federation of PEI Municipalities, John Dewey plans to retire in early 2025.
“FPEIM and municipalities across PEI have benefitted from John’s dedication, his quiet yet dogged persistence, and his advocacy,” said President Bruce MacDougall. “In fact, I have often referred to him as ‘Mr. Municipality’ because of his vast knowledge and his commitment to making PEI municipalities even better places for Islanders to live, work, and play.”
John became FPEIM’s executive director in January 2001, after serving as CAO of the Town of Borden-Carleton and then the Town of Montague. He was drawn to the opportunity at FPEIM because it focussed on the “big picture” — addressing issues faced by municipalities across the province.
“I’m grateful to have worked with so many extraordinary and dedicated people, including FPEIM presidents, board members, staff, and municipal leaders and staff from across PEI,” he said. “They serve local governments because they care about their communities and Prince Edward Island.”
In retirement, John looks forward to spending more time with his family, including his two grandchildren. His last day in the office will be in late January. A committee has begun the hiring process for a new executive director.
On behalf of everyone at FPEIM, congratulations on your retirement, John! You will be missed!
