The Department of Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy released details about its Sustainable Communities Initiative. The Department is inviting expressions of interest of up to five pages. This new initiative presents an interesting opportunity for PEI municipalities. Your municipality can submit its idea for a local energy generation project that could be owned by the municipality. This could include micro-scale electricity generation, centralized heating and cooling, co-generation, community energy efficiency, or energy from waste, but the Department hasn’t clearly identified specific types of projects that are eligible as the intent is to be open to innovative ideas. The deadline to submit expressions of interest is May 1, 2020.
Five proposals will be selected from applications received by the May 1 deadline. Support will be provided to further develop the proposal and assess the feasibility of the selected proposals. Expressions of interest will continue to be accepted until November 1, 2020 for possible additional rounds of feasibility studies.
