Cyber Security & Planning topics at FPEIM Semi-Annual Meeting

October 30, 2019

Stronger Municipalities – Stronger Communities – Stronger Island!

Mayors and councilors from across the Island were in Souris today for the Federation of Prince Edward Island Municipalities (FPEIM) Semi-Annual Meeting, which took place at the Royal Canadian Legion.

Presentations included cyber security, municipal planning, Federation of Canadian Municipalities funding programs and a new procurement program for FPEIM members.

Federation President Bruce MacDougall noted the importance of cyber security and planning saying, “Municipal governments have been alerted to the increase in cyber security attacks on municipalities by the Canadian Cyber Security Centre.  It is timely to have Frank Fazio, a white hat hacker come and explain in plain language the way the ‘human’ factor impacts municipalities.”

Speaker Hope Parnham, FPEIM’s planning speaker, focused on the importance of planning in PEI saying, “With population growth, housing shortages, and climate change impacts being seen Island-wide, municipal government planning is more important than ever.”

The Federation of PEI Municipalities is committed to representing Prince Edward Island municipalities as a strong and unified voice and to fostering effective, efficient and accountable municipal government in Prince Edward Island.

Mission Statement
