December 20th, 2018 – Charlottetown, PEI – The Federation of PEI Municipalities (FPEIM) thanks six outgoing members of the Board of Directors for their dedication and service to PEI municipalities and welcomes incoming board members.
The Board of Directors of the Federation of PEI Municipalities is made of mayors and councillors from the cities, towns and rural municipalities across the province. They bring rural and urban perspectives to the table during important discussions. Federation of PEI Municipalities President Bruce MacDougall was quoted as saying, “The outgoing board members provided valuable advice and direction to the Federation during some important decisions related to topics such as the Municipal Government Act, revenue sharing, infrastructure programs and the development of resources for municipalities to name a few.” MacDougall noted the dedication of all board members to municipalities across the Island. “The commitment of Gwen Wyand and Irene Dawson has been outstanding, with each serving 20 years on the Federation’s Board,” he said, “and both served as FPEIM President as well.”
Gwen Wyand spoke to the valuable friendships made and offered this piece of advice to new mayors, councillors and FPEIM Board members, “be patient and always remember that you can make a difference.”
Irene Dawson said “strong municipalities are the foundation for a strong province. I was happy to play a role in the progress made by the Federation over the years and see a bright future for municipal government as that important work continues.”
Marvin MacDonald, former Councillor of the O’Leary Town Council, and FPEIM board member said, “I enjoyed my term on the FPEIM Board and learned much about other member municipalities and how the Federation works with government on our behalf.”

The Federation of PEI Municipalities (FPEIM) was formed in 1957 to provide a strong and united voice for municipalities. Its mission is:

• to guide and assist member municipalities in enhancing their overall operation and decision-making processes; and
